Description
The areas affected include... Bay and Gulf Side from Craig Key to Halfmoon Shoal out to 5 fathoms... Gulf Waters from East Cape Sable to Chokoloskee 20 to 60 nm out and beyond 5 fathoms... At 359 PM EDT, National Weather Service meteorologists detected a a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing wind gusts near 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located 16 nm north of Gulfside 8 Reef, moving west at 20 knots. The strong thunderstorm will remain over mainly open waters.
Instructions
Prepare for thunderstorms with wind gusts near 30 knots, locally rough and confused seas, occasional lightning strikes, and potentially blinding downpours. Get to a safe port as quickly, and as safely as possible. When downpours reduce visibility, slow down. Intense and continuous lightning is occurring with this storm. Stay low, or go below. Lower VHF antenna, outriggers, fishing rods, and umbrellas. Avoid open areas on islands and sandbars. Do not shelter under tall or isolated trees on nearby mangrove islands.
