Description
Overview
At 314 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing light to moderate rain continues near Mexican Springs. Between 0.75 and 1.25 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.25 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Hazard
Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
Source
Radar indicated.
Impacts
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Nakaibito and Tohatchi. Flash flooding is expected along local roads in Mexican Springs. Given heavy rains earlier this week, it will take less water to cause flash flooding.
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
