Impacts

Significant flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to significant flooding.

Additional details

- At 921 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported numerous roads that were flooded in the warned area due to heavy rain from earlier thunderstorms. Significant flooding is ongoing. - The Shade River gauge at Chester has reached 28 feet and continues to rise. This is the third highest water level on record, rivaling what occurred on September 18th, 2004, when the river breached 30 feet. Roads that normally do not flood will flood!! - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Athens, Pomeroy, Coolville, Rutland, Forked Run State Park, Mason, Tuppers Plains, Middleport, Chester, Syracuse, Hartford City, Darwin, Harrisonville, Dexter, Dyesville, Reedsville, Portland, and Salem Center. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Instructions

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
