Description
Overview
At 1146 PM MDT, Thunderstorms have diminished in intensity over the Otero Mesa. Radar estimates 2.50 to 3 inches of rain fell in Otero County, northwest of Dell City. This will result in flooding in various draws that flow towards Dell City. Retention dams will prevent water from reaching Dell City, but flooding will impact rural roads north and northwest of town, especially across the New Mexico border.
Hazard
Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
Source
Radar indicated.
Impacts
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Rural areas on the Otero Mesa northwest of Dell City.
Instructions
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
