FFWABQ The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... North Central Socorro County in central New Mexico... Southwestern Valencia County in central New Mexico... * Until 715 PM MDT. * At 311 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Impacts
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Bernardo, La Joya, Walking Sands Rest Area, and Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge. This includes Interstate 25 between Mile Markers 165 and 175.
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
