Description

Details

This warning is in effect for parts of the coast due to the following hazard(s): - Higher than normal water levels Storm surge is expected between Sunday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Herschel Island and may cause moderate flooding. Water levels are expected to reach 20 to 25 centimeters above highest astronomical tide between midnight and 6 AM MST tonight. High water levels will return again for each successive high tide until Wednesday morning. These conditions may cause damage to infrastructure near the coast, including boats beached or anchored along the shoreline.

Impacts and guidance

This warning is issued when high water levels pose a threat to coastal regions due to tides, storm surge and/or waves. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to YTstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on social media using #YTStorm.

Description

Note
Service Notice – July 2026: The Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) CAP Service undergoes changes from time to time as the business of alerting evolves. For Spring 2026, changes are expected to include... 1) ECCC's deployment to introduce free-form polygons to represent the true threat area of a weather hazard, which was originally scheduled for June 2026, is delayed. We will communicate the new date when it is available. Monitor https://dd.weather.gc.ca/doc/genots/ for notifications on the new launch date. Information about free-form polygons representing the true threat area of a weather hazard remains under media embargo until launch, 2) marine alerts will now be issued for smaller zone splits in certain areas of Atlantic and Pacific waters and 3) other minor improvements and corrections.
